Rangers attacker Josh McPake is set for a medical at newly-promoted League One side Morecambe on Wednesday, according to Football Insider

It is claimed that McPake will sign a new three-year contract with the Gers, before being sent out on loan to Morecambe for the 2021/22 season.

The 19-year-old has only made one senior appearance for Rangers, and spent last year's campaign on loan with League Two side Harrogate Town.

He made 23 appearances for them, and chipped in with four goals, as they finished 17th in the fourth tier standings last term.

It appears as though his strong showings haven't gone unnoticed though, with Morecambe making their move for him early into the summer transfer window.

Morecambe won promotion into the third tier from League Two last season, as they beat Newport County in the play-off final at Wembley earlier this year.

They'll be eager to add to their squad during the summer, as they look to avoid dropping straight back into League Two heading into the new league campaign.

Morecambe are set to face Ipswich Town on the opening day of the League One season, which is likely to be a tricky test for the Shrimps at Portman Road on Saturday 7th August.

The Verdict:

This could turn out to be a really smart bit of business.

McPake has shown that he can perform to a high standard whilst out on loan, having impressed with Harrogate Town in last year's campaign.

Rangers clearly rate him highly as well if they're agreeing a three-year contract with the promising youngster, who is still only 19.

Morecambe are likely to be able to offer him regular minutes as well, with Carlos Mendes Gomes recently departing the club in favour of a move to Championship side Luton Town.
