Scottish giants Rangers have made an enquiry with Championship club Aston Villa for their striker Ross McCormack as revealed in a tweet by sports journalist Graeme Bailey.

The 31-year-old played for Rangers earlier on in his career, appearing for the club ten times from 2004 to 2006.

McCormack has endured a tough time since his £12 million move to Villa Park last season which has seen him score just four times in 27 league games, a shell of his former self who managed 21 goals for Fulham the previous season.

This would be quite the coup from Rangers as the Scottish striker has been heavily linked with a move to Sunderland ever since Simon Grayson’s side lost both Jermain Defoe and Fabio Borini earlier on in the summer.

The Verdict

Rangers are still a long way off of taking the top spot in Scottish football off of Celtic, but a signing like this can go a long way in achieving that.

Despite his age and his poor form at Aston Villa, we here at FLW still think he has got plenty to offer a club at this level.

McCormack is a proven goal scorer in the Championship and we think he could probably hit even higher heights in Scotland as Rangers’ search for supremacy continues.
