Rangers are set to join Glasgow rivals Celtic in trying to sign Stoke City forward Tyrese Campbell in the January window.

The 19-year-old, son of former Everton striker Kevin, is out of contract at the Bet365 Stadium in the summer and the Daily Record have revealed that the Scottish champions have been watching him ahead of a potential move.

Even though he has six months to run on his deal, Stoke would be entitled to compensation due to his age and that figure is believed to be around £350,000.

However, Neil Lennon's men won't have a free run for Campbell, with Football Insider claiming that the Ibrox outfit are also monitoring the teenager and could press ahead with a move to bring him in next month.

Campbell has endured a frustrating time with the Potters and has yet to play a minute under new boss Michael O'Neill - and the Northern Ireland chief hasn't even included him in his matchday squad for the past five fixtures.

Prior to that, he scored one goal in 13 appearances under Nathan Jones in the Championship.

Do you know where these 15 ex-Stoke City players are playing now?

The verdict

It's not really working out for Campbell at Stoke right now and you wouldn't be surprised to see him leave in January or in the summer.

A move to either of the Glasgow giants would have to appeal to the player and even though it would come with real pressure, he could thrive in the spotlight.

The youngster needs to get his career going but he would face a battle to get regular football north of the border so it will be interesting to see what happens.
