Rangers have made a long-term contract offer to Stoke City forward Tyrese Campbell, as they look to convince him to make the move up to Scotland, according to the Football Insider.

Campbell has emerged as a vital attacking option for the Potters over the last few weeks, with Michael O’Neill electing to give him a chance in his starting line-up out on the right-hand side of Stoke’s front three, with the forward having initially found chances limited in the first few months of the Northern Irishman’s tenure.

The 20-year-old has rewarded O’Neill’s faith by delivering some strong performances down the right-hand side in the last few games, with his brace in the Potters’ 5-2 win at Huddersfield Town on New Year’s Day showing the potential he has to add goals to the side from that position.

Campbell, though, is out of contract in the summer and can therefore be tempted to another club on either a permanent deal this month, or on a pre contract arrangement for next season – and a move to Rangers would see Stoke only revive a small compensation fee for the 20-year-old.

The Verdict

O’Neill will be hoping that he can convince Campbell to remain at Stoke this month and potentially commit his long-term future to the club, but after finding chances limited early on in the Northern Irishman’s time in charge you could understand the forward wanting to keep his options open.

However, Campbell is starting to build some momentum with his form and looks likely to be given a run of games in the starting line-up, so it could be important that he remains at the club for at least the rest of the season to continue his recent form.

Stoke will not be wanting to lose a player of Campbell’s potential for a small fee in the summer if he moves abroad, and so will be hoping that if he were to agree a move to another club it would be somewhere in England where they could command a larger compensation fee.
