Rangers boss Mark Warburton has once again cast his eye down south in search of further reinforcements to his squad, this time Stevie May of Sheffield Wednesday being the target, a club insider from the Owls has informed Football League World.

May looks set to stay at Sheffield Wednesday
Rangers are still keen on a move for Stevie May

The striker, who excelled during his time in Scotland whilst plying his trade at Hamilton, Alloa and St Johnstone, has failed to live up to the hype which surrounded him when he arrived at Hillsborough, netting only seven goals in 42 competitive fixtures.

It remains to be seen whether or not May will be included in new head coach, Carlos Carvalhal's plans for Wednesday, with the new boss already making his mark on the side by making a number of new signings.

The bustling frontman had been well known for his keen eye for goal during his previous stint in Scotland, and it would seem that his failure to match those achievements during his time at Hillsborough is down to the age-old problem of a much talked about, promising Scottish talent heading to the Football League and being unable to reproduce the same standard when facing better quality opposition.

With Rangers facing another season in the second-tier of Scottish football, whilst still being able to offer a competitive salary, May does indeed seem like the type of recruit they'd be looking at.
