Rangers are set to step up their interest in Charlton Athletic forward Lyle Taylor, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The 30-year-old faces an uncertain future at the Valley and is likely to leave this summer, with his contract set to expire at the end of this month.

Furthermore, manager Lee Bowyer revealed yesterday afternoon that Taylor, along with Chris Solly and David Davis, are refusing to play in the remaining nine games of the season due to risk of injury.

This is undoubtedly a big blow for Charlton, not only for their hopes of Championship survival, but to their hopes of keeping Taylor beyond this season.

Taylor scored 25 goals for Charlton as they won promotion from League One last term, and his 11 goals in 22 appearances this season have kept their dreams of staying up alive.

But with various clubs being linked with the striker, it is Rangers who are reportedly set to step up their interest in Taylor, as per the Daily Star.

Steven Gerrard will be keen to add more firepower to his side this summer as the Gers look to close the gap on bitter rivals Celtic.

The Verdict

Taylor would be a coup for anyone on a free transfer as he is a natural goalscorer who has been clinical in front of goal over the past two years.

If Alfredo Morelos was to leave Rangers this summer than Taylor would be an excellent replacement, especially on a free.

One thing is for sure, it looks inevitable that he will be leaving this summer.
