Sheffield United have seen a bid in the region of £500,000 for Josh Windass rejected by Rangers, according to Football Insider.

The report also claims that The Blades' Championship rivals Preston North End and League One leaders Wigan Athletic have also had bids turned down for the playmaker and Chris Wilder's initial efforts to bring the player to Bramall Lane have gone the same way.

Former Reading man Graeme Murty is in charge at Ibrox until the end of the season following the sacking of Pedro Caixinha and that managerial change has seen Windass become a key part of the team at the Scottish giants.

The 23-year-old has been impressive for Rangers this season, with six goals and five assists in 20 Scottish Premier League appearances so far.

The Verdict:

Wilder has to shop on a budget and given his current form and the way he performed in the lower leagues with Accrington makes Windass a typical target for the former Northampton boss.

The Blades do not tend to pay over the odds and this could be quite a protracted negotiation but I would not bet against Wilder getting his man - however long it takes.
