Glasgow Rangers have not given up hope of signing Millwall defender Jake Cooper and are ready to launch a third bid for his services, according to a report by The Scottish Sun.

Since losing centre-back Bruno Alves to Parma, Rangers have made this position a priority to strengthen and Cooper has been at the top of their wanted list.

Rangers recently saw a £3m bid rejected by Millwall, who are desperate to keep their star defender, but they are ready to return with a new and improved offer.

The 23-year-old only signed for Millwall on a permanent basis last summer - after guiding them to promotion while on loan - but he formed a solid partnership with Shaun Hutchinson as his side reached 7th place in the Championship.

The towering centre-half played 42 games for the Lions last season and now Steven Gerrard is desperate to bring him to Ibrox.

If Rangers fail to sign Cooper, they could turn their attention to Curtis Tilt of Blackpool, who is valued at £1m despite only having a year left to run on his contract with the League One side.

The Verdict

Cooper is young but has plenty of experience already and is a powerful and physical defender.

The former Reading defender is a formidable aerial presence and he even contributed with four goals last season, showing that he is always a threat from set-pieces and corners.

The former England under-20 star would be a superb signing for Rangers and he is a long-term investment so a bid of up to £5m could be worth their while.
