Blackpool are edging closer to completing a deal to sign Rangers goalkeeper, Jak Alnwick according to reliable journalist, Alan Nixon.

The Tangerines will be hoping to build on some impressive performances in League One last season, as they finished 10th in the league table.

It had previously been reported by Football Insider, that Alnwick had undergone a medical at Bloomfield Road as he looks to complete the deal in swift fashion.

Alnwick has experience of playing at League One level, having made 79 appearances for Port Vale earlier in his career, as well as turning out for Newcastle at the start of his professional career.

He also spent last season on loan with Scunthorpe United, but was unable to stop them from being relegated to League Two.

The shot-stopper isn't in Steven Gerrard's plans for the Rangers first-team, and is currently third-choice goalkeeper behind both Wes Foderingham and Allan McGregor.

So a move away from Ibrox seems as though it is the best move for both parties involved, as Alnwick will be keen to prove himself in English football once again.

In total, he made just 11 appearances for the Gers, across a four-year-spell with the Scottish giants, but it seems as though it's only a matter of time before he leaves the club.

The Verdict:

He'll be hoping to find his best form at the earliest of opportunities.

Alnwick hasn't had the game time he would have hoped for with Rangers, and a permanent move away from the Scottish club seems as though it's the best move for both parties here.

If he can settle into life with Blackpool quickly, then I think he'll be a key player to rely on for the Tangerines as they target a top-six finish next season.
