Scottish Premiership side Rangers are closing in on the signing of Birmingham City attacker Greg Stewart, according to reports from the Evening Times.

The 29-year old has struggled to make the grade during his time at St. Andrew's, failing to find the net in a total of 22 appearances for the West Midlands side since his arrival from Dundee in 2016.

But the attacker has been given a new lease of life on loan with both Kilmarnock and Aberdeen this term, scoring nine goals and producing six assists in all competitions this season.

Rangers have been heavily linked with a move to sign the versatile forward, who is set to be out of contract at the end of the season and could be available on a free transfer.

And according to reports from the Evening Times, Steven Gerrard is on the brink of completing the signing of Stewart, with the club also looking to seal deals for John Souttar and Jake Hastie.

The Gers will be hoping that Stewart can another impressive campaign next year, in order to help Gerrard's men challenge Celtic for the title.

The Verdict

This would be a cracking signing for Rangers, and would be another exciting attacking option for Gerrard's men.

I don't think he's good enough to challenge Alfredo Morelos for a starting role up top, but he would certainly keep the striker on his toes.

Birmingham will be ruing the fact that they won't get any money for the striker, as he could have gone for a sizable fee given the season he has had this term.
