Rangers goalkeeper Jak Alnwick is set to join Blackpool on a permanent transfer after passing a medical with the League One club.

The stopper has struggled for game time at Ibrox since the arrival of Allan McGregor pushed him down to third choice under Steven Gerrard, with Wes Foderingham ahead of him in the pecking order too.

As a result, the 26-year-old has had to move to get some minutes and he spent last season on loan at Scunthorpe in the third tier of English football.

And, whilst it was a very disappointing season on the whole, with the side relegated to League Two, Alnwick's performances clearly impressed.

That's because Football Insider are reporting that Simon Grayson's side are in advanced talks to bring in the stopper, with signing a new number one said to be a priority for the ex-Leeds boss.

Whilst there has been no mention of a fee, the fact Alnwick is approaching the final year of his contract in Glasgow combined with his lack of action means it's unlikely to be a significant amount.

The Verdict

This seems as though it will be a good move for all parties and it's certainly clear that Alnwick needs to get a move away from Rangers this summer.

Quite simply, he has no chance of breaking into the team with the two keepers in front of him, so his only chance of football will come elsewhere.

Blackpool are an attractive option right now with the club having new owners and a new manager ahead of the season which starts in a few weeks.

It's a matter of time before this is finalised and the Tangerines are landing a good keeper for League One.
