Millwall youngster Zak Lovelace is attracting interest from Rangers and a number of Premier League clubs.

According to the Daily Record, the 15-year old striker is being sought after by the Scottish champions, as well as the likes of Leicester City and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Rangers are said to have watched him regularly this season.

The forward turns 16 this week and is highly regarded as one of the brightest talents to come from Millwall in recent years.

He became the club’s second youngest ever player following his appearance off the bench against Coventry City last month.

Lovelace needed permission from his school to even be allowed to play in the game.

Manager Gary Rowett has had Lovelace train with the first team on numerous occasions so far this season.

Lovelace joined the club at just 13, having already spent time with Crystal Palace and Brighton. However, Millwall are doing everything they can to convince the player to remain with the club ahead of signing his first professional contract.

Millwall are currently 11th in the Championship table. Rowett’s side lost their last league game, falling to a late Lewis Grabban winner at home to Nottingham Forest.

The defeat increased the gap between the two sides in the table, as Forest now lead Millwall by five points.

That was Millwall’s second league defeat in a row, having also lost to Bristol City on January 2.

Rowett’s side next face Blackpool away on January 22.

The Verdict

At only 15-years old, soon to be 16, it is impossible for Lovelace to really know what to do next in his career.

It is promising that he is being sought after by such big clubs, and that Millwall desperately want to keep him. It shows how much talent he has and just what his potential is.

Millwall are the club who gave him his debut at the highest level, and that appearance against Coventry City might just be what Millwall need to keep him at the club.

Consistent game time at 16 is probably too much to ask for at a club in any of the four divisions, but that he is training with the first team at Millwall already, and getting some minutes to go with that, is a pretty enticing deal to stay with the club.
