Steven Gerrard's Rangers are the latest club to be showing an interest in signing Bolton Wanderers youngster Luca C0nnell.

The teenager has sprung into the limelight with a series of excellent performances for the struggling Trotters, and has a host of admirers including Wolves, Norwich and Southampton to name but a few.

However, according to Football Scotland, Rangers are now throwing their name into the hat to land the youngster as they prepare for a busy summer of transfer dealings in the hope of finally reeling in Celtic next season.

Connell has so far made only a dozen first-team appearances but has shown enough in those appearances to suggest he could well go right to the top of the game with the right guidance and coaching.

He will no doubt have his options this summer and with the problems at Bolton, it would be amazing to see Connell stay put in Lancashire as the club continues to be threatened with various off-field issues as they head into League One next year.

The midfielder will no doubt look up to the likes of Steven Gerrard, and the Rangers gaffer will no doubt look to use this to his advantage as he prepares to make his case to Connell to make the move north of the border.

The Verdict

You get the feeling this is going to go on a bit, and you suspect about 12 clubs will want Connell come the end of the line.

Connell is a class act though for someone so young and he will get a move, it's just a case of where. He can certainly play Championship football, and he would have little trouble adapting in Scotland.

It's exciting times for Connell though, and he will have abig decision on his hands soon.
