Rangers are reportedly rivalling Sky Bet Championship duo Preston North End and Blackburn Rovers in signing Gillingham forward Tom Eaves, according to reports from Sky Sports News.

The 26-year-old has been on fire for the League One club this season, and currently leads the way in the division's top scoring charts with 13 goals to his name.

The powerful forward has netted 14 goals in 26 games in all competitions for the Gills this season, despite the Kent side languishing in 16th position in the League One standings.

His form in front of goal seemingly hasn't gone unnoticed, with Tony Mowbray's Rovers and Alex Neil's Lilywhites rivalling Steven Gerrard in the quest to land the 6-foot-3 forward.

Eaves has now netted 32 times in over 70 games for the League One outfit since his arrival from Yeovil Town last year, and could prove to be a shrewd acquisition for either reported team.

Preston currently sit 15th in the Championship, whilst Blackburn sit just six points off the playoffs in 11th position.

The Verdict

It was only a matter of time before teams started circling around Eaves.

He has been tremendous for a struggling Gillingham side this season, and perhaps deserves a move away to Ibrox or the Championship.

He's tall, strong and a threat in the air, and would be a shrewd signing for any team.
