Reports in Scotland suggest that Glasgow Rangers and Blackburn Rovers will battle it out to sign Ryan Kent on loan from Liverpool.

According to The Scottish Sun, Steven Gerrard is planning to sign Kent on loan from his old club but faces competition from Championship new boys Blackburn.

And Gerrard's influence with the powers that be at Anfield make Rangers favourite for Kent's signature, despite Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray also holding talks with Liverpool representatives and scrapping hard to land his man.

Kent is likely to leave on loan again this summer after being pushed further down the pecking order by the arrival of Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke.

The 21-year-old has only played one senior game for the Reds but has had loan spells at Coventry City, Barnsley, SC Freiburg and Bristol City.

After struggling in Germany with Freiburg and then failing to making an impact at Ashton Gate, Liverpool are set to send Kent out on loan yet again to further his development.

The former England under-20 international looks more likely to join Rangers, but Rovers remain keen.

The Verdict

If Blackburn could beat Rangers to Kent, it would be an exciting season.

Despite a difficult season at Freiburg and Bristol City, Kent has previously shown that he has the pace to trouble any defender, good skill and the ability to provide goals and assists.

The youngster would also be an asset for Rangers and he needs to make a wise career choice now.
