Rangers are in talks with Nottingham Forest over a permanent deal for Jason Cummings this summer.

Cummings joined Rangers on-loan from Forest during the January transfer window, spending the second-half of the 2017/18 campaign at Ibrox.

The 22-year-old’s brief spell at Ibrox brought 18 appearances and six goals across all competitions and was largely successful.

Rangers’ Director of Football, Mark Allen, has confirmed to The Scotsman that the Scottish club have entered talks with Nottingham Forest over another deal for Cummings, but those discussions are at an early stage:

“There is ongoing dialogue with Forest (over Cummings), but it’s early days.”

Cummings only arrived at the City Ground permanently last summer, but failed to make a major impact in the Sky Bet Championship following his arrival from Hibs.

The forward featured on 14 occasions in the Championship and scored one goal, with his most impressive performances for the Reds coming in the Carabao Cup, with Cummings scoring three goals in three appearances.

Rangers are currently preparing for life under Steven Gerrard, whilst Aitor Karanka is reshaping his squad ahead of his first full season with Nottingham Forest.

The Verdict

Cummings’ spell in the Championship never really worked out for the forward, who struggled to adapt to life in England.

A move to Rangers wasn’t that prolific, but the 22-year-old showed enough to suggest he would be worth taking into next season.

It is hard to see why Karanka would offer Cummings a lifeline at the City Ground, as he looks to reshape the squad he inherited from Mark Warburton.
