Rangers have made an enquiry about taking Saido Berahino on-loan next season, with Steven Gerrard identifying the Stoke City striker as a top target this summer.

According to a Football Insider report, a number of Championship clubs are monitoring Berahino’s situation at Stoke, but Rangers have made the first move by making an enquiry.

Gerrard is hoping to take Berahino on-loan to Rangers next season, with the controversial striker emerging as a top target for the Scottish outfit.

Berahino has been with Stoke since January 2017, with the striker making 30 first-team appearances for the Potters, but failing to score a goal for the club.

The 24-year-old built a decent reputation at West Bromwich Albion, having come through the ranks at the Hawthorns.

However, his reputation has been dented in recent years, with his spell at Stoke City proving to be a major disappointment.

Gary Rowett has taken over at the bet365 Stadium this summer, agreeing a three-year deal as Stoke’s manager.

It remains to be seen if Berahino features in Rowett’s plans at Stoke or if the Championship club will be ready to move him on this summer.

The Verdict

Berahino has really struggled to make an impact in England recently, with a move to Rangers something that could well appeal to the 24-year-old.

Scottish football could be the perfect place for Berahino to rebuild his reputation and put a difficult couple of years behind him.

It's a surprise to learn that Rangers are keen on a risky swoop for Berahino, particularly given his form at Stoke.
