Two proposed loan moves between EFL sides and Glasgow Rangers are being reported to have collapsed as per the Express.

The Scottish giants were thought to be lending winger Glenn Middleton to Doncaster Rovers earlier in the window. Then-Rovers boss Grant McCann had all-but confirmed the switch, with a few finer details to be confirmed.

McCann then moved to Hull City, prompting a postponement of the move. Whilst Rovers have said the deal is still alive pending the ratification of any new manager, it seems as though the Ibrox side are losing patience and the deal is off.

Similarly, Blackpool were linked with a move for target man Ryan Hardie, the young striker struggling to make the final step up into Steven Gerrard's first team. It was believed he was on the cusp of a move to the Tangerines, but again a change of manager appears to have scuppered that.

Terry McPhillips stepped down over the weekend and Simon Grayson took over, leaving the deal in doubt.

Middleton is a former Norwich City youngster who made the move to Ibrox after seeing his Canaries' mentor Graeme Murty take over. He played 27 times last season, ten outings coming in the Europa League, scoring five times.

Hardie scored seven times in 17 matches last season during a loan spell at Livingston. The 22-year-old has represented Scotland up to Under 21 level, but has scored just twice for Rangers in 17 outings.

The Verdict

It just goes to show how quick-moving and fluid football transfers can be. The Middleton deal was reported as almost done at one point, but a couple of weeks later it's dead in the water.

Perhaps fans don't always appreciate how delicate these situations are. Changes of manager can easily derail deals, or they can just as easily have little effect.

What it does prove, to Blackpool and Doncaster fans at least, is that the manager is in control of signings, not a mysterious figure behind the scenes.

That'll be a comfort if they do fail to bring the Rangers pair over to England for a season.
