Former Leeds youth player James Tavernier rules out return to Elland Road

The 24-year-old played under Evans at Rotherham United where he was a part of the squad that won promotion to the Championship in 2014 via the play-offs, scoring five goals in 27 appearances for the Millers.

Tavernier has had a wonderful start to his career at the Glasgow club, scoring nine times in 14 matches, after joining from Wigan Athletic in a £200,000 deal in the summer.

The Bradford-born full-back, who had a spell at Leeds' academy before joining Newcastle United, rates Evans highly, but has insisted that he is going nowhere in January and is happy with life at Ibrox.

He told the Daily Record: 'Steve Evans is a great guy. He is just under the gaffer at Rangers as he also gave me the freedom to play. I had a great season under him, he’s a character. We had a brilliant time at Rotherham when we won promotion.

'I spoke to him before I signed for Rangers and he wished me well. But my full commitment is to Rangers. I am enjoying my football, my family has moved up and we are all enjoying the Glasgow experience.

'It’s good to put down roots. That was my main aim when I came here, to put foundations down and settle at a club I can remain at for years.'

Expect some transfer activity in January at Elland Road with the side currently in the bottom half of the Championship table in 17th place with 22 points from 19 matches.

They face an away trip to struggling Charlton Athletic on Saturday before facing Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molinuex on Thursday night.
