Peterborough United forward Siriki Dembele has handed in a transfer request as he looks to leave the League One side this month.

The 24-year-old has been a standout performer in the third tier this season, contributing with five goals and four assists in 17 games.

Unsurprisingly, that has caught the attention of a host of clubs. Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers are thought to be monitoring the player, whilst Nottingham Forest, Fulham and Crystal Palace are also keen.

For Peterborough, who are fifth in the table, the aim would be to keep the creative spark as they look to win promotion.

However, their hand may be forced now, with Sun reporter Tom Barclay confirming on Twitter this afternoon that Dembele has handed in a transfer request as he looks to push for a move.

Following the news, The Posh owner Darragh MacAnthony revealed on Instagram that he had received a transfer request from a player, although he reiterated that no individual will be sold unless their valuation is met.

The verdict

This is a very interesting update, and it's pretty clear that Dembele has his heart set on a move away this month.

On one hand, you can understand why. There are some big clubs after him, and the chance to play for Celtic or Rangers, or potentially in the Premier League, is a massive opportunity for him.

But, this isn't a great way to act and Peterborough have shown in the past that they will not be bullied in the market, so it will be intriguing to see how this plays out.
