Rangers are set to sign Charlton midfielder, Joe Aribo for a fee believed to be in the region of £300,000 with a medical in place this weekend according to the Daily Mail.

Aribo's contract with Charlton is set to expire at the end of June, and he's seemingly keen to move onto a new club before the season gets underway in August.

The 22-year-old played a crucial role in Charlton's promotion back into the Championship last season, and his positive performances evidently didn't go unnoticed.

He made 36 league appearances for the Addicks, and scored nine goals for Lee Bowyer's men as they return to the second tier of English football.

Due to his his age, Rangers are said to be paying the Championship side a fee believed to be in the region of £300,000 to sign Aribo before he reaches the conclusion of his contract at the end of this month.

The report also claims that Charlton boss, Lee Bowyer made a late attempt to convince Aribo to stay with the club, but he's seemingly got his heart set on a move to the Scottish giants.

According to the Daily Star, Aston Villa and Celtic were previously interested in signing the midfielder, but Steven Gerrard's side appear to have won the race to land his signature.

The Verdict:

This is a smart signing by Rangers, but it's a frustrating update for Charlton.

Aribo really impressed me for the Addicks last season, and his statistics speak for themselves as to how much of an impact he made for Bowyer's men.

With nine league goals last season, it looks as though he's a player with a bright future ahead of him.

He'll be learning from a midfielder who has played at the very top in Steven Gerrard and he'll be keen to learn from the Liverpool legend.
