Rangers and West Brom have joined the race to sign Charlton striker Lyle Taylor ahead of the January transfer window, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

Taylor has proved to be a revelation since his move to the Addicks back in the summer of 2018, and it appears that interest in the 29-year-old has intensified following his recent return from a three-month injury lay-off.

The forward scored five goals in his first six matches of the Championship season before suffering his injury blow, but he is now on the road to full fitness and has featured from the bench in each of the Addicks' last three league matches.

The former AFC Wimbledon man is set to see his two-year contract expire in the summer and this has seen the likes of West Brom, Rangers, Swansea and Sheffield Wednesday all join the battle to sign him in a potential pre-contract agreement.

Downie shared the news via his Twitter account on Friday:

Taylor has netted 30 goals in 54 appearances for Lee Bowyer's side since he made the move across London to The Valley, while he has also reportedly been attracting interest from Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United.

The Verdict

There was always bound to be plenty of interest in Taylor's services given his incredible goalscoring form since his move to Charlton, but the Addicks will surely feel more confident of extending his contract after their recent takeover.

It will still be difficult for them to negotiate a contract to keep Taylor at The Valley - especially given the nature of the high-profile interest in him - but it would be a huge statement of intent if they could keep hold of the 29-year-old.

His incredible goalscoring rate means he would certainly be an impressive signing for the likes of Rangers and West Brom, while Taylor would surely be interested by the possibility of a move to one of these big clubs.
