Having opted to hand over the reins at Ibrox to Mick Beale in December, it will be interesting to see whether Rangers decide to conduct some transfer business between now and the end of the January window.

One of the individuals who has recently been heavily linked with a move to the club is Morgan Whittaker.

Whittaker spent the first half of the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Plymouth Argyle before returning to Swansea City earlier this month.

During his time at Home Park, Whittaker managed to set the third-tier alight with his attacking displays.

As well as scoring nine goals for Argyle, the 22-year-old also provided seven assists in 25 league appearances for the club.

Here, we have decided to take a look at the latest news regarding a potential transfer move for Whittaker to Rangers...

Rangers were initially touted as potential suitors for Whittaker earlier this week.

A report from Wales Online revealed that the Gers were interested in signing the winger from Swansea on a permanent deal.

Swansea boss Russell Martin recently suggested that the club had rejected a bid from Rangers for Whittaker.

In an interview with BBC Sport, Martin said: "We have rejected an offer from them [Rangers], that's it."

It is understood that this particular offer was well short of the asking price that has been set out by Swansea's hierarchy.

As per Football Insider, the amount of money that Rangers offered for the winger was believed to be in the region of £1m.

Rangers are expected to submit an improved bid of £1.5m according to this particular report.

Beale suggested after his side's 3-2 victory over Kilmarnock that he was not aware of the club's offer for Whittaker.

Asked about Martin's claim about a bid being turned down (as cited by The Scottish Sun), Beale said: "Did he really?

"I didn't know we have made a bid but I will talk about the player.

"They have recalled him for a reason.

"I would say that he was one of the better - if not the best - player in League One in the first half of the season and unless they have recalled him to play him, they must have recalled him to move him to a higher level.

"I think he's a good player but there is nothing more to that.

"And that is not what I have been told in-house."

With Swansea set to take on Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, it will be intriguing to see whether Whittaker will feature for the club in this fixture.

Whittaker was left out of the match-day squad for last weekend's meeting with Sunderland due to transfer interest.
