Queens Park Rangers defender Angel Rangel has said he 'would love another year' at the club.

Rangel, 37, is in his second season at QPR. He re-signed in the summer after his initial one-year-contract had expired, and he's due to be out-of-contract again in the summer.

In an Instagram Q&A conducted on his own account yesterday, a fan told Rangel 'not to retire this year' and to 'stay with QPR', to which the Spaniard responded:

Despite nearing his 40th birthday, Rangel is proving that he's still a useful footballer. He's made 13 league appearances for Mark Warburton's side this season and whilst he might not be able to play every game, he's more than able to put a shift in.

He's shown this season that his experiences in the game can counteract any loss of the physical side, and fans would love to see him remain in West London, as a player or even as a coach.

In two seasons at the club, Rangel has made 33 Championship appearances. He's scored two goals for the R's, both of them coming at Stoke City last season.

Entering the final few months of his contract though, and having not featured for the first-team since December, fans may fear that Rangel's time at QPR is soon to end.

The verdict

QPR are cost-cutting like there's no tomorrow and Rangel's contract is unlikely to be renewed, unless he's on a low-wage, and perhaps in some sort of player/coach role.

Fans would love to see him stay for at least another year though - he's a reliable character and one who always gives everything for the shirt.
