Middlesbrough face a difficult trip to the midlands as they take on Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

It's been a disappointing first half of the season for Jonathan Woodgate's side, but seven points from their four games has given the team a bit of a confidence boost.

The latest result was a 1-0 victory over Charlton Athletic at the weekend, and several players will be hoping that their strong performances in that game will see them secure a spot in the starting XI at the City Ground on Tuesday.

Of course a number of injuries will once again mean it's slim-picking for Jonathan Woodgate.

Let's take a look at the injuries and potential return dates of the Middlesbrough squad.

Darren Randolph

The goalkeeper was rushed back to fitness in recent weeks, but will miss another month of action with a thigh injury.

The Middlesbrough staff will be hopeful that the stopper will be back to feature at some point over the festive period, but in reality it could be 2020 before he's back in action.

Ryan Shotton

The experienced defender has been out of action since the end of October with an ankle injury.

Shotton had been a key player for Middlesbrough this term and the hope will be to get him back as soon as possible.

Unfortunately the defender is set to be out for a few more weeks yet and may not return until the New Year.

Marcus Browne

After starting the clash with Derby County it seemed that Marcus Browne could be set for a run in the first team.

However the former West Ham man suffered a hamstring injury in the 4-1 U23 defeat against Manchester United.

Jonathan Woodgate addressed the injury after the QPR draw and said that he could be out of action until the end of December.

Anfernee Dijksteel

The full-back will be out for another three months.

Dijksteel suffered a knee injury in the victory over Barnsley two weeks ago and faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Rudy Gestede

It's been a frustrating season so far for the striker.

Gestede is currently out of action after suffering a hamstring injury last month which would rule him out for a matter of weeks.

He did make his long-awaited return for the U23s against Aston Villa on Monday, and could feature for the first team against Nottingham Forest or Swansea City.

George Friend

The captain could be out until February after struggling with a thigh and hip injury.

The problem developed at the end of last season and despite trying to shake off the knock, it's something which will rule him out for the next couple of months.

How much attention have you paid to Middlesbrough this season? Let's find out!

Lewis Wing

The midfielder was a surprise absentee for the clash with Charlton Athletic at the weekend.

Jonathan Woodgate revealed after the game that it was the result of a knee injury, but didn't disclose any more details.

He could return for the trip to Nottingham Forest, but if not he's likely to be in contention to face Swansea City.

Britt Assombalonga

The striker has been nursing an ankle injury in recent weeks.

Despite powering through with the knock, the striker picked up a fresh injury after a hefty challenge from Darren Pratley in the clash with Charlton at the weekend.

He'll undergo a scan to see if he'll be fit for the clash with Forest.
