Sunderland moved into the automatic promotion places in League One with a comfortable 2-0 win against struggling Plymouth Argyle yesterday.

It took a brace from Aidan McGeady to settle the game, both goals coming in the second half after a resolute Plymouth held firm for the first 45 minutes. Sunderland always looked in control of the game though and the result was no less than they deserved.

They found themselves without influential midfielder Lee Cattermole, left out of the side after struggling with injury in recent weeks, but another player stepped up and made his mark in the captain's absence.

25-year old Dylan McGeouch was a summer capture from Hibernian and he caught the eye of the travelling fans with a commanding performance. He's taken a while to settle in and one fan noted it was little coincidence he had his best game when the combative Cattermole was absent.

Following the game some Black Cats' fans took to twitter to appraise the midfielder, calling his outing the best he's had in a Sunderland shirt.

Here's a sample of the praise the Scottish international attracted last night.
