With just over a month to go until the start of the 2018/19 season, Phil Parkinson will want to start getting Bolton Wanderers into shape and ready to hit the ground running.

Indeed, the first pre-season game, away at St Mirren, is less than a fortnight away.

This makes the next week crucial.

It will play a significant role in building a picture of how Bolton will line up at The Hawthorns on August 4th.

Parkinson's two seasons at the club have allowed him to mould the squad in his image. This has overwhelmingly been in the form of free transfers.

However, following Bolton's last gasp escape from relegation, investment may be needed to avoid a repeat performance. While this is unlikely to herald a blitz of spending, we could well see the Trotters raiding the piggy bank this summer.

Here are three things we expect to happen in this coming week.

Signing Charlie Wyke from Bradford City is a must.

At a reported £1 million, it will be only the third time Bolton have paid a transfer fee in three years.

However, the 16-goal striker is worth every penny. He could well save the Trotters from another relegation scrap.

Sammy Ameobi’s discussions should be wrapped up.

The 26-year old was a rare highlight in the squad last season, but his contract has expired.

With 3.4 dribbles and 2.0 shots per game, he was Bolton’s brightest attacking outlets. Securing his services for next season would be well worth it.

The rumours around Hope Akpan signing should come to a close.

The Nigerian midfielder rarely impressed for Burton Albion last season. If Phil Parkinson wishes to push on up the table, he should be looking at securing a higher calibre of player.
