Rafa Mir has opened up on his disappointing loan spell at Nottingham Forest, in a translated interview provided by Sports Finding.

The Spaniard arrived at the City Ground on a season-long loan deal from Wolves in the summer, having managed to make only four senior appearances for the club during his time at Molineux.

But the 22-year-old endured a tough time on loan at Forest, making only two starting appearances in the Championship and failing to find the back of the net in a total of 13 appearances for the Reds.

Mir struggled to get into the side ahead of leading goalscorer Lewis Grabban, but when he was given his chance to impress, he was unable to make an impact.

Wolves, therefore, took the decision to recall him from his spell at the City Ground and send him out on loan to Huesca. He has scored two goals in three games since returning to Spain.

Via Sports Finding, Mir has opened up his disappointing Forest spell, saying: "It was an option agreed with my people and coming to Huesca was the best option.

"They gave me a lot of confidence and that was key. I was away for several weeks because it was clear that I was going to get out of there (Forest).

"The Championship has a very high level. Things have not gone as I wanted. In the end they are experiences that add up. I feel more identified with Spanish football; in England it is played differently."

Forest sit fourth in the Sky Bet Championship table, four points off the automatic promotion places ahead of a clash with second-placed Leeds United this weekend.

The Verdict

I had my doubts about Rafa Mir when he first arrived at the City Ground as his goalscoring record in England was far from inspiring.

The powerful forward struggled to cope with the tempo of the Championship whenever he played for the Reds, and struggled to make his physical prowess and aerial threat really count.

He seems to have found his feet in front of goal back in Spain, though, so I'm sure Forest fans would wish him the best back in his home country.
