Newcastle United boss, Rafa Benitez, has admitted he is interested in signing Josh Murphy from Norwich City, after recently agreeing a deal to sign his twin brother from the Sky Bet Championship outfit, reports the Chronicle Live.

Jacob Murphy is on the verge of completing a move to St James’ Park after Newcastle and Norwich agreed a fee of around £12m.

However, Benitez has now revealed that he previously tried to sign Jacob’s twin brother, Josh, and remains interested in the Norwich winger, he said: “Last year here in Ireland we were talking about his brother Josh.

“We liked him. I was following both of them (Jacob and Josh).”

The Newcastle boss, who is preparing his side for their return to the Premier League, was then asked if he was interested in signing Josh Murphy this summer, he replied: “I think we will have to wait a little bit.

“One of them at the moment is fine!”

With Jacob Murphy all set to join Newcastle, Norwich will be reluctant to lose his brother this summer, during the same transfer window.

Josh Murphy did not quite have the same impact as his brother - who scored ten goals across all competitions - at Carrow Road during the 2016/17 campaign, but the 22-year-old was still impressive.

The winger made 35 appearances across all competitions and scored ten goals, with five of those coming for Norwich’s under-23 squad in the Football League Trophy.
