Rafa Benitez planning Newcastle reunion with World Cup winning defender

According to a report by the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are plotting an ambitious move for Real Madrid defender and Spanish international, Alvaro Arbeloa.

As Steven Taylor has left the club after 13 years and over 200  appearances and current right back, Darryl Janmaat is set to leave the club in the upcoming summer, Rafa Benitez’s first task will be to find the first choice right back.

One potential option for Newcastle United could be the 33-year-old Spanish defender Alvaro Arbeloa, who Rafa Benitez has managed at both Liverpool and Real Madrid.

As Arbeloa’s contract expires at the Bernabeu next month, the Spanish defender would be available on a free transfer with Newcastle United only needing to pay for Arbeloa’s wages.

Although a drop down to the Championship is unlikely to entice Arbeloa to Newcastle United, the possibility of playing for Rafa Benitez again could attract him to the North East.

Newcastle United fans, how do you feel about the news? Would you like to see Arbeloa join the club? What do you think he would add? How often would you play him? Let us hear your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below!
