Andrea Radrizzani has given the green light for Kalvin Phillips to be given a significant pay-rise as part of his new deal at Leeds United, according to reports from Football Insider.

The 23-year-old has been a hugely influential player for Marcelo Bielsa over the last couple of years, and was the subject of serious transfer interest over the course of the summer window.

Aston Villa, AFC Bournemouth and Wolverhampton Wanderers were all linked with the dynamic midfielder's services, with his current deal at Elland Road set to expire at the end of next season.

Football Insider claimed that Phillips rejected Leeds' opening contract offer, as he looks to become one of the highest earners at the club alongside Kiko Casilla and Patrick Bamford.

But now, Football Insider claim that Radrizzani has given the green light for Phillips to be given a significant pay-rise as part of his new contract at the Yorkshire club, with the midfielder holding out for a four or five-year deal.

Leeds have already lost a key player in Kemar Roofe to Anderlecht this summer, which was largely down to the club failing to tie him down to a new deal, with his initial contract set to expire next summer.

The Verdict

It may be quite costly to tie Phillips down to a new deal, but it would be worth every penny to say the least.

He is such an important player to Bielsa, and you will struggle to find a player who dictates the tempo of the game and controls the midfield on his own just like he does.

He is an exceptional talent, and nailing him down to a new contract will protect their financial security in the long-term for sure.
