HITC Sport reports that Leicester are planning to open negotiations over a new deal with Elder, but a host of Championship and League One sides are considering swoops on either a loan or permanent deal.

Wigan Athletic are among the teams interested in the 23-year-old after he completed a successful loan spell at the DW Stadium last term.

The left-back played 33 times during his loan spell with the Latics, helping the club win the League One title.

Elder returned to Leicester this summer and has featured in pre-season despite uncertainty surrounding his future.

The former Australia under-20 international has never played a senior game for the Foxes and has had numerous loan spells away from the club, including time in the Championship with Brentford and Barnsley.

The Verdict

Wigan should definitely try to sign Elder on a permanent deal.

They need a new left-back and he is the long-term solution in that department.

Elder doesn't really have much chance of first-team football at Leicester so it is sensible for him to move away rather than commit to a new deal at The King Power Stadium.
