Former Brentford star Sam Saunders delivered a glowing appraisal of Coventry City's win this weekend as he featured as a pundit on Quest's EFL highlights show.

Saunders, who also represented Colchester and Wycombe, retired in the summer to take up a position as a coach with Brentford's B team. He was watching on as one of his former clubs defeated Lincoln City this weekend, but it was another side from League One that caught his eye.

Coventry City continued their 100% record at St Andrew's with a last gasp goal against Blackpool to remain level on points with Wycombe at the top of the table and Saunders was full of superlatives for them, and one of their goalscorers.

“Great result again, four in four at home, for Coventry," he said on the show.

As for Aston Villa loanee Callum O’Hare, Saunders sees him getting better and better with his loan spells away from Villa Park.

“The loan boy doing the business, coming in at the number ten position and being very impressive. Had a loan spell at Carlisle last year and he seems to be going from strength to strength.”

O'Hare nabbed a late winner for the Sky Blues in a thrilling encounter this weekend. Sullay Kaikai had bagged an early brace to give the visitors control, but Wesley Jobello and Matt Godden restored parity before O'Hare's late winner.

The Verdict

Callum O'Hare is highly-regarded at Villa Park and it's clear to see why. He's one of the few Villans to get a rousing reception whenever he steps out at St Andrew's, that's for sure.

He's got a lot of technical quality but is also a willing runner and eager to get in the right positions. His Carlisle loan spell gave him valuable first-team experience, but he's now stepped up a level with ease.

If Coventry are to do well this season, O'Hare could well be a key figure in their endeavours.
