Former QPR defender Clint Hill has praised the club for its "brilliant early business" following the arrival of Lee Wallace and Liam Kelly from the SPL.

On Friday, left-back Wallace joined Glasgow Rangers signing a two-year, while Kelly, a Scotland under-21s international goalkeeper, joined from Livingston on a four-year deal.

Wallace left Rangers on a free transfer after making 262 appearances in eight years with the club to reunite with QPR boss Mark Warburton, who managed him while he was in charge at the Ibrox.

Kelly made 42 appearances for Livingston last season, keeping 17 clean sheets, and triggered a release clause in his own contract earlier this month.

The signings are QPR's first since their transfer embargo in January, and Hill, who made 185 appearances for the club and worked with both players at Rangers, has been quick to praise the club.

Speaking to QPR.co.uk, he said: "When you look at the arrivals of Lee and Liam, it represents brilliant early business by the club.

“Lee is a great leader and influence in the dressing room and I saw that first hand. He has been through the good and bad times at Rangers and that shows the type of character he is.

“I know what the pressure is like to perform at that club and he knows it far more than me. He can handle that which says a lot about his capabilities because he knows what it takes to play football under pressure which is a big asset to have.

“I think they are really going to take to Lee because he will always give the shirt 100%, he will bomb forward when he can and be the first to track back."

Hill did not play at Rangers with Kelly as the goalkeeper was on loan at Livingston but the ex-QPR captain suggested he has the characteristics necessary to succeed at Loftus Road.

He said: “Lee is a hell of a character, a funny guy and a very good goalkeeper.

“Over the last 12 months he has proven himself to be one of the best keepers in Scotland so it’s a great signing."

The Verdict

Hill seems full of praise for both players, which should reassure fans because he knows what it takes to succeed at the club.

Wallace is an experienced campaigner with more than 400 senior appearances in for Scottish top-flight sides and 10 international caps for Scotland, which should be useful for QPR as the club look to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle again this season.

If Hill's assessment of Kelly as one of Scotland's top goalkeepers is correct then bringing in the 23-year-old could be an excellent piece of business which the club benefits from for many years to come.
