Queens Park Rangers have started with 2018/19 Championship campaign with back to back losses.

A 1-0 defeat to Preston North End was followed by a disappointing 2-1 home loss to Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United, with 20-year-old Eberechi Eze netting the Hoops only goal of the season so far.

Whilst the worrying lack of fire power up top is cause for concern for Steve McClaren’s side, it is the woeful defending that could cause issues this season for Queens Park Rangers.

The starting centre back partnership that McClaren has stuck by in the opening two fixtures of the season has consisted of 30-year-old Joel Lynch and new summer signing Tony Leistner.

Lynch, who signed for the Hoops back in the summer of 2016, made 33 appearances for QPR last season, whilst Leistner joined the ranks at Loftus Road after his contract ended at German second division side Union Berlin.

Whilst Lynch has heaps of experience playing at this level, having made Championship appearances for the likes of Brighton and Hove Albion, Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield Town throughout his 13 year career to date, perhaps it is time for Steve McClaren to dip into the loan transfer market one more time in search for a younger centre half to partner Leistner.

Everton defender Brendan Galloway spent last season on loan at Sunderland, where he made just five appearances under the reign of then Black Cats boss Chris Coleman.

The 20-year-old centre back, who joined the ranks at Goodison Park in 2014 from Milton Keynes Dons, has played 21 times for Everton but is yet to gain consistent first team football at any club.

Having finished 16th last season, and currently sat just one spot above the football of the Championship table after their opening two games this campaign with zero points, Steve McClaren should be turning his attention to securing the loan signing of the English youngster.

With rumours that Galloway is keen for another loan move away from Everton this season, it makes perfect sense to try and secure the signing of the versatile defender in the coming days.

Giving his valuable first team experience, while QPR gain a tall, dominant presence in their back line, it is a deal that would benefit all parties involved.
