Queens Park Rangers have completed the signing of goalkeeper Liam Kelly from Scottish side Livingston, the R's have confirmed on their club website.

The 23-year-old has signed a four-year deal at Loftus Road after an impressive season between the sticks for Livingston in the Scottish Premiership.

He made 42 appearances and kept 17 clean sheets over the course of the season as he helped his side to a ninth-placed finish in the table, while he has also been called up to the Scotland squad.

Kelly will now provide competition for R's goalkeeper Joe Lumley, who enjoyed an impressive season in nets for the West London club. He made a total of 46 appearances last season, which means Kelly has his work cut out to oust him from the squad.

Kelly has been speaking out about his move, and he said the time was right for a fresh start at Rangers.

"I felt now was the right time for me to try something new and QPR gave me that opportunity,” he told the club website.

“Knowing the manager and how his teams play, it was something I couldn’t say no to. How the gaffer conducts himself is brilliant and that was a really attractive part of the move.”

The Glasgow-born stopper joined Livingston from Rangers last summer after rising through the academy ranks with the Ibrox giants.

The Verdict

This is a fantastic signing for QPR, and it means Mark Warburton now has two high-quality goalkeepers to choose from next season.

It may seem surprising to see the R's in for another goalkeeper given how impressive Lumley has been, but competition for places can only be a good thing

Kelly is still only 23, and I think he is destined to become Scotland's first-choice goalkeeper in a matter of time. This is a great signing, and it should give QPR fans plenty of hope for the summer ahead.
