Nedum Onuoha is facing a minimum of three months on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, reports the BBC.

The Queens Park Rangers captain requires surgery on a torn hamstring that the defender suffered during the midweek draw with Millwall.

Onuoha was substituted halfway through the 2-2 draw with Millwall, with Ian Holloway now dealt a further blow by learning about the severity of the 30-year-old’s injury.

The defender featured in QPR’s opening seven fixtures of the Sky Bet Championship season, helping Holloway’s side to 11 points from the opening weeks of the campaign.

However, Onuoha missed QPR’s 3-2 defeat to Middlesbrough on Saturday, which left Holloway’s side 11th and four points outside the play-off zone.

QPR are not in action this week, as the next round of the Carabao Cup takes place, but the Hoops will be looking to bounce back from the defeat to Boro on Saturday when they face Burton Albion.

The clash with Burton at Loftus Road begins a hectic schedule for Holloway and QPR, who face three fixtures in the space of seven days, with a trip to Barnsley closely followed by Fulham’s visit.

The Verdict

Onuoha’s absence is undoubtedly a blow for QPR and Holloway, particularly after the impact the defender made during the early stage of the Championship season.

Added to the absence of Grant Hall, James Perch, Joel Lynch and Steven Caulker, QPR’s defensive options are looking stretched heading into a busy week for Holloway’s side.

QPR will be pleased with their start to the season, but Holloway will want a reaction next week after their recent defeat, with his side handed the perfect opportunity to bounce back against Burton.
