Pep Clotet will lead Birmingham City into their opening game of the season against Brentford on Saturday with six new signings to his name.

Jake Clark-Salter, Dan Crowley and Ivan Sunjic were all among those who made the move to the West Midlands for what could be a tricky season.

But perhaps the most important deal of the summer was struck on Wednesday when the club confirmed that centre-back Harlee Dean had signed a new deal.

The contract will see the Blues' captain stay with the club until the summer of 2023, ending speculation of a departure this summer.

The 28-year-old's current deal was set to expire this summer and, after a period of serious upheaval, there were serious worries that Dean was going to join Jota, Che Adams and Garry Monk out of the door.

Last season saw him turn out 44 times in the Championship as Monk's side impressively steered clear of relegation trouble, being made club captain by Pep Clotet last week.

So, unsurprisingly, the response to the news was incredibly positive...
