Following their dismal relegation from League One at the end of last season, it could be argued that Bradford City fans will have been in need of something to boost their mood over the summer transfer window.

That is something they certainly got in mid-June, when the Bantams announced the signing of centre-back Paudie O'Connor from Leeds United.

Even at the time of his return to Valley Parade, O'Connor was no stranger to the club, having previously spent the latter half of the previous campaign on-loan with the Yorkshire club.

Despite their relegation being confirmed during O'Connor's time there, it certainly appears as though the Irishman made a positive impression on the club, with a number of Bradford fans seemingly delighted by his signing on a permanent deal.

After what was a frustrating start to the season for O'Connor, with the defender missing the first five games of the season, things have started to improve for the Bantams, with O'Connor having a big part to play in that.

Since making his return to the side at the end of August, O'Connor has been an ever-present in the Bantams starting line-up, and you can understand why manager Gary Bowyer has been keen to keep him in contention this season.

During those six straight league games that O'Connor has featured, Bradford have lost just once, picking up three wins to cement their place in the League Two play-off places, as they look to make a swift return to the third tier this season.

Indeed, it does seem as though O'Connor himself has made a big contribution to that encouraging start to the season for Bradford, and not just with regards to his defensive work.

Going forward as well, the former Leeds man has made a significant impact in attack as well, scoring a late winner in a 2-1 win over Northampton, while also firing home the equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Scunthorpe.

It is clear therefore, that O'Connor is going to have a big part to play in securing the points Bradford are going to need to win that promotion back to League One, from both a defensive and an attacking perspective.

If he can continue to do that throughout the rest of the season, then those Bradford fans who were so excited to see him back at Valley Parade in the summer, could have even more season to celebrate when that time of the year rolls around again.
