Denmark played the Republic of Ireland in the first leg of their World Cup qualification play off in Copenhagen on Saturday night.

There were plenty of familiar faces in Martin O'Neill's side but also a few amongst the Danish squad, including Christian Eriksen and Nicklas Bendtner.

Another player who was no stranger to many watching on was Andreas Bjelland, a defender who turns out for Championship outfit Brentford.

The composed defender has been a mainstay in the Danish defence throughout qualification, keeping out Chelsea hot prospect Andreas Christiansen.

That fact riled up fans of Brentford's west London neighbours Chelsea and some took to Twitter to express their frustration.

However, there were plenty of Bees fans, and second tier fans in general on hand to point out why Bjelland would be preferred to the Premier League man.

The defender was not greatly troubled but hardly put a foot wrong in the 0-0 draw, meaning that the entire tie rests on Tuesday's second leg in Dublin, where he will no doubt infuriate Chelsea supporters further by taking to the field again.
