QPR have no plans to sign Sebastien Bassong even though the defender is currently training with the London club.

The former Norwich City man has played for the U23 side as well, however, West London Sport are reporting that Steve McClaren will not be offering the 32-year-old a contract at Loftus Road.

It may come as a surprise to many given the R's poor start to the season. They are currently in the bottom three of the Championship and have recorded just one win so far this season.

And, the primary reason for such form has been their poor defensive record. They have conceded 13 goals in the six games so far this season, with seven of those coming in the embarrassing defeat at West Brom.

However, Bassong clearly is not the answer and it extends the Cameroon international's spell out of the game after he was released by Norwich last season.

Much of his time at Carrow Road was plagued by injuries, which have been a common theme in his career.

The Verdict

It's hard to judge Bassong, as he has been out of the game for a long time now.

Therefore, QPR's fans will have to trust McClaren, who has seen the player in training and for the U23 side, and he clearly doesn't think he's up to it.

At 32, he should still have a lot to give, particularly as a defender, but McClaren obviously doesn't think he will improve the current team.
