QPR boss Mark Warburton has questioned the validity of the upcoming transfer window amid the current delay to football.

Almost all leagues around the world have been suspended for some time and in most places, it remains unclear if, how, and when the current campaign will be concluded.

The delay to the season and the uncertainty about its conclusion has caused financial issues for clubs, with many having to furlough staff, agree wage deferral deals with players, and take other measures to mitigate the situation.

Warburton took a voluntary wage cut at the start of April and a number of the west London club's staff were put on furlough at that point.

It was reported last week that R's players had been asked to take a 50% wage deferral but eventually secured a 25% agreement instead.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Warburton has addressed the issue and made a bold claim about the validity of the upcoming transfer window.

He said: "I don't see how you can have, for example, a transfer window. How can you have a transfer window when people are being laid off and not paid and there are deferred payments. I just find it quite incredible.

"The whole game has got to accept it is an unprecedented situation, we keep saying it. How do we respond to it?

"The game can't expect to carry on as normal with what we've got through as a general society."

The upcoming transfer window looks like it could be a difficult one for the R's, with the likes of Ebere Eze and Bright Osayi-Samuel being linked with Premier League moves this term.

Has Ebere Eze done these 12 things at QPR? Have a go now!

The Verdict

This is a bold claim from Warburton but it's easy to see where he is coming from here.

Football clubs across the country and the world have been scrambling to take action to ensure they can stay afloat financially, so the thought that in a few month's time hundreds of millions of pounds of transfer fees may be being spent is a strange one.

That said, the transfer window is a hugely important part of the game and how it would be altered to be appropriate for the current situation remains unclear.

There is an argument to be made that it would benefit QPR if no transfers took place over the summer.
