Aston Villa are preparing to offload striker, Scott Hogan before the new season gets underway according to The Daily Mirror (28th June, page 63).

It has previously been reported by West London Sport, that QPR are interested in signing the 27-year-old, who could potentially be available heading into the summer.

Villa have already ended Ross McCormack's contract early as they prepare for life back in the Premier League, and Hogan could be the next player they look to offload.

Hogan spent the second-half of last season on loan with Sheffield United, as the Blades went on to win promotion back into the top-flight themselves.

In total, he made 14 appearances for Chris Wilder's side, scoring twice, but hasn't made enough of an impact to feature in Dean Smith's plans for the future.

According to The Mirror (19th June, page 48), Bristol City are also said to be interested in striking a deal with Villa for Hogan, although it remains to be seen as to who is leading the race to sign the striker.

It seems as though his long-term future is away from Villa Park though, and both QPR and Bristol City will fancy their chances at landing his signature before the start of the new Championship season.

The Verdict:

This is a promising update for both QPR and Bristol City.

Hogan hasn't been at his best since he left Brentford, and I think he could be a useful player to have for both teams next season in the Championship if he finds his best form again.

He's evidently not going to feature for Villa anytime soon and I think they should look at cutting their losses with him as soon as possible so that they can find a better option to have in their squad for next year's campaign.
