QPR winger set for Premier League switch with deal close

Premier League outfit West Bromwich Albion have reportedly agreed a £5.5 million deal with Championship side QPR to sign talented Scottish winger Matt Phillips, according to Sky Sports sources.

Phillips started his career with Wycombe Wanderers where he made 79 appearances and netted 8 goals, before moving on to Blackpool in 2010. He spent three years with the Tangerines, playing 94 appearances a scoring 12 times. He joined QPR in 2013, and has played 80 times for the Hoops since.

QPR were disappointing last season, and this coincided with a downturn in form for the Scottish winger, who was deployed as a lone striker in Charlie Austin’s absence.

The Scot was one of just two players left out of Rangers’ pre-season squad, which clearly signals Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s intentions to move him on in the summer, and now it appears Phillips is on his way to West Brom, with the two sides having agreed a deal.

Rangers will have to invest their money well however if they want to launch a proper promotion challenge, with the signings of Conor Washington and Nasser El Khayati having failed to pay off.
