QPR have announced Steve McClaren is to be their new manager as he looks to achieve a better season than the one just gone at Loftus Road.

The R's went through a campaign of real inconsistency in 2017/18 as they dominated many of their games at home and then often looked like they'd never met at away grounds.

That will be part of the former Middlesbrough man's task this summer, then, to find a system that gets regular results out of the R's players.

Here's the announcement on the club's official Twitter:

Ian Holloway, of course, was sacked not so long ago by the club as he left behind a team chocked full of good young players.

McClaren, meanwhile, has always prided himself on being a coach rather than a manager and so if he can coax the maximum potential out of what he's got, it might prove an inspired choice.

At the same time, though, there will be inevitable doubters given some of his negative footnotes on his CV.

The Verdict

Another job for Steve McClaren, then, and it remains to be seen how he gets on.

He's got a real mix of players at his disposal which, if he can get the best out of, will see the R's climb the league table.

If it goes wrong, though, a long season could await.
