Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin has revealed that he turned down a move to the Premier League and personally made the decision to stay at the Sky Bet Championship club.

Austin will remain at QPR

In an interview with Talksport, Austin was offered the chance to move to an unnamed Premier League club but decided that the move "wasn't right" for him or his family, and he also went on to rubbish talk of a switch to Manchester United.

Speaking to TalkSport, the 26-year-old striker said: "I didn’t feel it was right for me to go, so I stayed at QPR."

His decision to stay at QPR was a shock one amid interest from a handful of Premier League outfits including West Ham United, Newcastle United, Bournemouth and Leicester City.

His decision to stay at QPR is made even more surprising by the fact that he was offered the chance to play at a Premier League club after proving himself in the top-flight last season. He managed to find the net 18 times in a season that saw him become an in-demand forward wanted across the country.

However, the Premier League club - reportedly not Newcastle United - were disappointed as Austin chose to stay at the club where he has made a name for himself since signing from Burnley in August 2013.

The consistent transfer speculation doesn't appear to have fazed the striker as he has netted four times in QPR's opening five games. His form is as good as ever and if he continues to score, QPR will be delighted that they have managed to keep hold of him.

Whether or not any of the Premier League clubs interested in Austin will continue their pursuit of Austin when the January transfer window opens remains to be seen, but there's no doubt that QPR have managed to keep a superb striker in their squad that will help them push towards the top-six as the season progresses.
