QPR are set to announce the signings of two loan players from the Premier League, report Football.London.

Tottenham's Luke Amos and Man City's Matt Smith are the players in question, and both will bolster the QPR midfield after the departure of Jordan Cousins, and the potential exits of Massimo Luongo and Luke Freeman.

Defensive midfield is the natural position for both Amos and Smith, and gives an indication to the formation Warburton may deploy next season.

The R's conceded a staggering 71 goals last season, and it is clear Warburton believes it is an area of weakness, hence his targeting of these two. Both will operate just in front of the defence, providing protection as well as starting attacks.

The pair both impressed in loan spells last season, Smith played in every league game for FC Twente as they won the Eerste Divisie, and Amos impressed for League Two Stevenage, as well as making his Premier League debut for Spurs.

The Verdict

This is a brilliant opportunity for Amos and Smith. Amos in particular needs to impress at a decent level, he's 22 so time is running out for him to make an impression on Mauricio Pochettino and force his way into Spurs contention.

He did well at Stevenage but it is a big step up to the Championship, and replacing a player like Luongo is very difficult.

The worry for QPR fans is that the club is going for the cheaper option and could end up with two inexperienced players in the heart of midfield. However, both are technically astute and if they learn from Warburton they could prove to be very shrewd additions.
