Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Alex Smithies is eyeing up a victory over Leeds United this weekend to hand a boost to his former club Huddersfield Town, according to Get West London.

Ian Holloway's QPR side travel to high flying Leeds United, who are competing with Yorkshire neighbours Huddersfield in the race for promotion.

Three points separate Huddersfield and Leeds, who currently sit 3rd and 4th in the league, six and nine points off second placed Brighton respectively.

Fourteenth placed QPR travel to Elland Road and will be aiming to inflict a similar result upon Leeds as they did on the opening day, when they triumphed 3-0 at Loftus Road.

Smithies said:

“We can sort of play our way and work hard, and hopefully spoil their day.

"Hopefully I can help out my old club Huddersfield, but every game is big for us."

Smithies has been one of the top performer for QPR this season with inspired performances between the sticks.

He previously spent 8 years as a professional at Huddersfield, racking up over 250 appearances for his hometown club which he joined at the age of 8.
