QPR remain interested in Nahki Wells but are hoping to avoid paying a transfer fee, according to West London Sport.

It was originally reported that the 32-year-old is a transfer target for both QPR and Preston North End.

But the London club are looking to prioritise other transfer targets instead of pursuing Wells due to Bristol City’s stance over the player.

The Robins are insisting that a transfer fee be paid to capture the signing of the forward.

Wells had two loan stints with Rangers in his career, where he proved to be a popular figure among supporters.

In his time at Loftus Road, the Bermuda international scored 20 league goals across two seasons, helping the team achieve a 19th and 13th place finish in the Championship.

The forward has since spent three campaigns with City, adding a further 18 league goals to his tally.

He has played for the likes of Burnley and Huddersfield Town elsewhere in his career.

QPR are looking to sign two forwards this summer, as new manager Michael Beale looks to stamp his mark on the team ahead of the new season.

Beale’s side will get their campaign underway on July 30 with an away trip to Ewood Park to face Blackburn Rovers.

The Verdict

QPR’s issues comes from wanting to avoid paying a high cost for a player at this age, which is a pretty reasonable stance to take.

On the flip side, it is also reasonable to expect City to want to get the best deal for themselves also.

It is difficult to see a compromise coming from such contrasting viewpoints, but if City really want to depart with Wells then QPR may get their way.

That Rangers have other targets they can prioritise also strengthens their hands in this negotiation as they are not desperate to get a deal over the line anytime soon.
