QPR stance on £6m-rated West Ham target clarified

QPR are yet to field any enquiries about goalkeeper Seny Dieng and expect him to be at the club next season despite reports elsewhere, according to West London Sport

The 26-year-old cemented his place as Mark Warburton’s first choice shot-stopper last term – keeping 11 clean sheets in the Championship as the R’s conceded 21 fewer goals than in 2019/20.

Dieng’s performances drew him links to Arsenal, Crystal Palace, and Leeds United in January, while reports in April indicated that West Ham United were planning to swoop for him in the upcoming window.

It is understood it could cost in the region of £6 million to prize him away from the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium this summer as he still has more than three years left on his current contract.

According to West London Sport, however, QPR currently expect Dieng to be at the club next season.

It is understood that despite speculation about a Premier League move, the west London club is yet to field any enquiries about Dieng.

Last season’s backup Joe Lumley has already left the R’s this summer, joining Middlesbrough on a free transfer, while Liam Kelly is thought to be reluctant to play second fiddle next season and could move to Motherwell after his successful loan spell.

Can you name the QPR player who has been carded the most in each of the last 16 seasons?

The Verdict

This is certainly a boost for the R’s, who finally settled their goalkeeping situation last season following the emergence of Dieng.

While cashing in on him this summer could give Warburton more money to invest in his squad, it would leave them in desperate need of a new shot-stopper.

It’s early days yet but supporters will be reassured by the club’s stance and the lack of enquiries about his future.

They’ll be hoping this isn’t a saga that is dragged out across the summer, however.
